SAFE Act database unfinished;
gun registration to start
"Work in progress". The NY state budget in 2013 for the SAFE Act included $27.7 million to implement the law and another $3.2 million for additional computer work. Does this sound familiar, instance a certain healthcare web site with profligate expenditure?! Gov. Andrew Cuomo has championed the law and has signaled he has no plans to agree to any changes.

ALBANY -- The state is still struggling to design a program that would create a database for background checks on ammunition sales that was part of New York's controversial gun-control law in 2013.
State Police Superintendent Joseph D'Amico testified at a budget hearing Thursday that the database approved as part of the SAFE Act remains a work in progress.
The provision was considered a key part of the law because gun dealers could run a background check on anyone buying ammunition in New York. The initial plan was to have it up and running in January 2014, but it remains mired in technology issues, D'Amico told lawmakers...... -->
